Religious Symbolism and Politics: Hijab and Resistance in Palestine

In the 1970s, often because of the horror of parents and siblings, some progressive young Arab women wore a veil voluntarily. There are movements that are growing rapidly and increasing in speed sparking controversy in Islamic culture as well as reactions that ranged from confusion to anger against the outside. Western feminist commentators have been vocal in weakening the curtain, what they lightly interpreted as concrete manifestations of patriarchal oppression. However, most Western observers fail to realize that the veil, which has a long and complex history, turns out to be it. It is considered by many Arab women as a confirmation of cultural identity and a categorical feminist statement.

The headscarf not only demarginalizes women in society but is also an expression of the liberation of colonial heritage. In short, modern confusion is a more general resistance. By volunteers, these women move away from men's eyes and emphasize their attachment to rich and diverse traditions and at the same time preserve their sexual identity. Apart from that, the curtains also communicate. The exclusivity of rank and nuance in social status and relationships provide a clear picture of how Arab culture was formed. Furthermore, as the authors clearly show, confusion is closely related to confusion imagine yourself, your body, and your community, and with the construction of identity, personal life, and the culture of the place. This provocative book is based on extensive field research, anthropology, history, and the original language of Islam. Resources for challenging simple obscure assumptions related to  mostly to modesty and seclusion, honor and shame.
